What is AARC?

The Accreditation and Approval Review Committee (AARC) on Education in Human Lactation and Breastfeeding is an organization established in July, 2008 to recognize lactation programs for educational quality. AARC continues the evaluation process begun by the International Lactation Education Accreditation Council (ILEAC). In addition, as a member of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), AARC is establishing a process for the accreditation of academic programs sponsored by accredited post-secondary institutions. AARC is co-sponsored by the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) and the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).

What is IBLCE?

The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) is a non-profit professional certification agency that was established to develop and administer the certification examination for lactation consultants. The IBLCE examination is the premier, internationally recognized measure of competence in lactation consulting. Founded in March, 1985, IBLCE has administered annual examinations, in multiple languages and at numerous sites around the world. The IBLCE certification program for lactation consultants has been continuously accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) since 1988.
